
Syllabus of Respiratory Technician Gr.II
Detailed syllabus for the post of Respiratory Technician Gr.II in Medical Education
- Basic anatomy and physiology of respiratory system. Pharmacology in respiratory system – Airway pharmacology including bronchodilators, anti-inflammatory drugs in haled steroids (5 Marks)
- Infection control in respiratory care, care of respiratory equipment. (5 Marks)
- Spirometry- Indications, contraindications, spirometry procedure, equipment maintenance , DLCO, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and other pulmonary function tests, polysomnography- preparation of patient , procedure and basic interpretation (20 Marks)
- Nebuliser therapy- principles, various devices, procedure, Inhaler devices including patient education on inhaler devices . (10 Marks)
- Oxygen therapy- Various oxygen delivery devices, indications, complications, and precautions. (5Marks )
- a)Bronchial hygiene therapy-indications, methods – postural drainage. -Directed cough – and other airway clearance techniques – assisted coughing, various mucus clearing techniques including devices like flutter devices .
b)Pulmonary rehabilitation. (15 Marks) - Arterial Blood Gas- sampling procedure, indications contraindications and basic interpretation. (10 Marks)
- Non-invasive ventilation- including bilevel and CPAP- indications, contraindications and initiation and care of patient on NIV. (15 Marks)
- Airway management including intubation, tracheostomy care, suctioning including endotracheal suctioning, care of patient on mechanical ventilator, tracheostomy suctioning and extubation, humidification therapy (15 Marks )
NOTE: – It may be noted that apart from the topics detailed above, questions from other topics prescribed for the educational qualification of the post may also appear in the question paper. There is no undertaking that all the topics above may be covered in the question paper.
