Introduction of carpentry and safety precaution (10marks)

Introduction of carpentry General discipline, Workshop discipline and Housekeeping. Safety precaution in the workshop and Industrial safety Importance of PPE, Types of PPE and their applications

Module 2

Timber (10marks)

Introduction of Timber, Growth of trees ,cross section of tree trunk, Soft wood and Hard wood, their differences, Common Indian timbers,
Defects and Diseases Seasoning of Timber, Conversion of Timber.

Module 3

Hand Tools (15marks)

Measuring Tools, Marking Tools, Testing Tools,Supporting Tools, Holding Tools, Sawing Tools, Planing Tools, Chiseling Tools, Boring
Tools, Striking Tools, Impelling Tools, Miscellaneous Tools, Abrading Tools

Module 4

Joints  (15marks)

Lengthening Joints, Widening Joints, Framing joints, Angle Joints etc.

Module 5

Simple Furniture Making (10marks)

Different Types of Furniture, Veneers and Ply wood, Types of Glues/ Adhesives, Nails and Screws, Calculation of Timber.

Module 6

Wood carving (5marks)

Description f Different Carving Tools, Properties of Carving wood.

Module 7

Wood Finishing (10marks)

Paints and its ingredients and agents, Preparation of Surface for staining, Uses of different grade Sand papers, Preparation of Putty, French Polish, Method of applying Wax polish.

Module 8

Advanced wood working machines (10marks)

Band sawing machine, Circular sawing machine, Surface planer, Thicknesser, Wood turning Lathe, Mortising machine, Tenoning machine,
Universal wood working machine, Jig saw machine,Bench Drilling machine, Bench grinder etc. Portable Machines.

Module 9

Pattern making (5marks)

Types of Pattern, Advantages and Disadvantages of Wooden pattern

Module 10

Building Construction  (10marks)

Roof, Doors and Windows, Wooden Stairs, Wooden Partition, Types of Hinges and Door locks, Bolts, Nuts and Washers.
