Module 1. Public health and Community Medicine, primary health care , healthsystem, health planning and management (10)

History of evolution of public health and community medicine, administration and management including human resource management in health care, management techniques, role of fundamental principles of constitution, principles of democracy and its correlation with health care administration, frame work of health care system at State, District, Taluka & village level, planning process, monitoring & evaluation, Primary Health Care- elements, principles, stakeholders at Primary health centre level, scope and implications of 3-tier system of Primary Health Care, Panchayati Raj system and health, budgeting based on evidence of needs assessment.

Module 2. Communicable Diseases, emerging and re-emerging diseases, Immunology, entomology, parasitology (15 marks)

Epidemiology of communicable diseases with special emphasis on transmission, signs/symptoms, management, prevention & control measures, related national health programmes & guidelines, special projects/ initiatives at global/ national / state level , surveillance system , investigation and containment of outbreaks/epidemics ; emerging and re-emerging diseases, immunology, vectors of medical importance and integrated control measures, dynamics of transmission of vector borne diseases, parasitology, pest control measures

Module 3. Non-Communicable diseases (12)

Epidemiology, prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, related national health programmes, National and international guidelines

Module 4. Epidemiology, Health research, Bio-statistics(10)

Epidemiological study designs, protocols, data collections procedures, data analysis and interpretation of outcome measures ,validity of epidemiological data and application in practice at field level and health care settings screening

Module 5. Nutrition (10)

Nutritional problems in the region, state and country, contributing factors, ecology perspectives, importance of nutrients including micronutrients, their sources, requirements and problems associated with their deficiencies as well as over consumption, planning a balanced diet and dietary requirements of various age and sex groups , dietary/nutritional concerns of vulnerable groups – young children, adolescents, antenatal/ postnatal/Lactating mothers/senior citizens/individuals with various health problems e.g hypertension, diabetes, renal problems etc, classification of food, food additives, food fortification, food enrichment, food toxins and food adulteration, food
hygiene and safety, food storage, food preparation, food wastage and feeding practices , assessment of nutritional status of a community by adopting different methodologies, nutritional supplementation, surveillance, education and rehabilitation, national programmes in nutrition and their evaluation, National nutrition policy.

Module 6. Environmental health, public health chemistry, hospital administration biomedical waste management (10)

Health issues related to environment -housing, air, water, noise, radiation pollution , measurement of pollution levels and health impact, corrective measures, requirements of water, water chlorination and household purification measures, measurement of chlorine demand, Break-point chlorination levels, water quality, assessment of quality of water and air, control of air pollution , environmental sanitation and control measures (including appropriate technologies) , modern methods of sewage disposal, mechanical ventilation, global warming and its health impact, environmental health issues in urban and rural areas, functioning of public sector measures to safeguard environmental health e.g water purification plant, legislative measures for protection of environmental health,
hospital administration biomedical waste management

Module 7 Occupational Health (5)

Occupational environment and work dynamics, occupational exposures at various settings, occupational hazards, measurement of exposure levels to harmful influences during occupation, preventive and control measures against various occupational hazards – global, national and local level measures, individual and community responses towards preventing exposure to occupational hazards, occupational safety measures, legislative measures to prevent exposures to occupational hazards, compensation provisions to persons exposed to various occupational hazards, occupational health problems among people in unorganized sector, social security and welfare provisions for workers – ESIS, Factory’s Act, Role of ILO, Ministry of Labor

Module 8 Gender , Medical Ethics , Health Economics , social and behavioural sciences, health education and communication (10)

Gender and health, medical ethics, scope of health economics, health market & its characteristics, economic evaluation techniques, funding Health Care services, especially health insurance, alocation of resources, Economic evaluation Principles of behavior change of an individual and community, knowledge, attitude and practices, social
medicine and health, behavior change communication (BCC), Socio-cultural factors influencing behavior change, formal and informal organizations in the community, peer pressure , promoting and detrimental to BCC, social and behavioural sciences, health education and communication .

Module 9 Maternal and child health, mental health , geriatrics, genetics (12)

community health needs survey, training & communication needs assessment of paramedical and health workers, identify vulnerable, underprivileged communities, implements high risk approach, role of health policy in promotion of Primary Health care, ensuring equity, intersectoral co-ordination, appropriate technology and community
participation, promotion of preventive and curative health services- National Health Mission, National Health Programs, Quality Hospital based services, Medical Education, merits and demerits of the Health Policy, SWOT analysis of the policy and recommendations for future inclusions, maternal and child health care and related
programmes -Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) , mental health with special emphasis on public mental health – depression, alcohol abuse, mental health care in primary care, national mental health programme / district mental health programme (DMHP), geriatrics, genetics.

Module 10 Public Health Legislation, International Health, bioterrorism, recent advances in Public Health (6)

Public health legislations, enforcement of various public health laws, judiciary mechanism for ensuring proper implementation of public health laws, scope for integrated approach for implementation of public health laws, need and scope for international health measures, Events at local, district, national & global levels influencing or adversely affecting health /medical issues of the population,utilization of modern technology, software, IT application in
the interest of health promotion & disease prevention, functions of various UN agencies (including WHO) playing key role in international health, bilateral vs multilateral international donor agencies, advice to international travelers and vaccination requirements, International health control measures e.g. quarantine, airport management
etc, management of international ports from health perspectives, bioterrorism, recent advances in public health/ community medicine.

NOTE: – It may be noted that apart from the topics detailed above, questions from other topics prescribed for the educational qualification of the post may also appear in the question paper. There is no undertaking that all the topics above may be covered in the question paper
